Welcome to the brand new Basketball Summer League brought to you by FAB Scotland. FAB is a new fitness initiative which aims to provide the primary schools in Edinburgh and Scotland with sustainable and progressive health and fitness programmes. FAB will use new and innovative methods in educating children in the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle. Using a blend of motivational fitness workshops, coaching and mentoring, camps and competitive arenas to play sports and an interactive element we aim to make a difference in Scottish sport in the long term. However, short term goals include improving standards in P.E. and increasing participation in all sports and games and it is our aim to initiate a programme this summer, in 2005!

In the past few years the summer league has been oragnised and run by basketball enthusiast Danny Kaye who's influence on the scottish game is unmistakeable. However, Danny has decided to step aside in order for FAB to take over. The league will have a new look. The object of the league is to offer a competitive arena for players to play against Scotland's top talent on a weekly basis. Past summer leagues have been a recreational event, aimed towards giving people a free pickup game in a friendly atmosphere.
FAB is striving towards creating an action packed, high flying and exciting league where the eventual winners will walk away with the Danny Kaye trophy.
There will also be individual prizes for the real standouts of the 10 week tournament.

The league will follow the basic rules of any normal basketball match.
There will be referees and table officials for each game and all march scores and player points tallies will be recorded. There will be regular posts online of top scorers and summer league match reports. Furthermore, there will be press coverage in the capital's papers. All that FAB asks is that you bring your best attitude, work ethic and most importantly - your game! This is not a "get together" of basketball hotshots, this is a competitive league where the winners take all! There will be 8 weeks of regular fixtures and 2 weeks of playoffs. The games will consist of two halve of 25 minutes with a running clock. We feel that this will maintain the momentum of the games and will ensure that every team sees their fixtures.

Unfortunately, due to lack of teams and lack of interest from the women's teams in the SBA national league the FAB summer league will be men only this year. This is to our great regret as the women's invlovement in the league was fundamental to our plans. However, we do hope that more women will show interest for next year.

The league will run from friday the 8th July, and will run for 10 weeks.
There are 12 team places, with a maximum of 10 team members. We would appreciate full team entries, however, if there are any players looking to play and do not have a team get in touch and we will do our best to place you. For those who are interested please feel free to contact us and we will send you out a team pack..

Yours in sport

Grant Gibson
